The client

Our client is a direct-to-consumer fashion brand that sells clothing and accessories online. It already performed well through paid social and influencer marketing, but wanted a more sustainable organic channel in Germany. A German version of the site existed, but the brand had very little authority in the German search ecosystem.

The challenge

The brand competed with established German retailers, international fashion brands and large marketplaces. Many category pages were technically strong and well localized, but rankings had stalled outside the first page. The existing backlink profile was also mostly English-language websites. The client needed German backlinks from sites that were genuinely relevant to fashion and lifestyle audiences in Germany.

What we did

We ran a German-language outreach campaign focused on editorial relevance:

  • German competitor research: We analyzed the backlink profiles of leading German fashion ecommerce sites.
  • German-language outreach: We contacted local publishers directly in German, instead of using translated English templates.
  • Fashion and lifestyle guest posts: We secured placements on German fashion, lifestyle and women’s interest websites.
  • Product reviews: Selected bloggers received products for independent features and reviews.
  • Category link building: We pointed backlinks at key collection and category pages.
  • Link insertions: We secured contextual placements in existing articles on styling, seasonal fashion and buying advice.
  • Editorial campaigns: We used product launches and seasonal trends to create more publisher opportunities.

The results

Over 19 months, organic visibility grew significantly.

  • Organic traffic grew from 12,700 to about 90,400 visits a month.
  • Domain Rating rose from 29 to 58.
  • Ranking keywords grew from 11,600 to about 67,800.
  • More than 140 commercial keywords entered the top 10.
  • Several competitive category keywords reached positions 1–3.
  • Organic search became one of the company’s largest non-paid acquisition channels in Germany.

We did not try to build the biggest backlink profile possible. We built one that looked naturally relevant to a German fashion brand.
